Conditional Sentence.
Conditional sentence is a sentence in English that is used to express a desire, hope, presupposition, a plan that may or may not be realized.
Formula:
If + condition, consequence
Consequence + if + condition
Conditional Sentence Type 0
Conditional setence type 0 is used to say a fact that is known to many people
Formula:
If + simple present, simple present
Simple present + if + simple present
Example:
1. If she sleeps late, she is sleepy at school.
Jika dia tidur terlambat, dia mengantuk di sekolah.
2. If you touch water, your hands become wet (Kalau kamu menyentuh air, tanganmu menjadi basah)
3. If you close your eyes, you can't see (Kalau kamu menutup matamu, kamu tak bisa melihat)
4. If a bird doesn't have 2 wings, can't it fly? (Jika seekor burung tidak mempunyai 2 sayap, tidak bisakah ia terbang?)
5. If we read very often, we certainly know anything (Jika kita sangat sering membaca, kita tentu saja tahu banyak hal)
Conditional Sentence Type 1
Conditional sentence type 1 is used to say something that might happen in the future.
Formula:
If + simple present, present future (will)
Present future + if + simple present
Example:
1. If I have money, I will buy house for my parents.
( Jika saya memiliki uang, saya akan membelikan rumah untuk orangtua saya)
2. If Raina study hard, she will get A for the tests.
( Jika Raina belajar keras, dia akan mendapat nilai A untuk ujian-ujiannya)
3. If I pass the exam, my father will buy me a car.
( Jika saya lulus ujian, ayah akan membelikan saya sebuah mobil)
4. If the driver arrive at time, she will not be late.
( Jika supirnya datang tepat waktu, dia tidak akan terlambat)
5. If the weather is nice, she will go to the beach.
( Jika cuacanya bagus, ia akan pergi ke pantai)
Conditional Sentence Type 2
Conditional sentence type 2 is used to say something that is very unlikely to occur or in other words almost impossible
Formula:
If + past tense, past future
Past future + if + past tense
Example:
1. If I were Ricky, I would hit that boy.
(Jika saya adalah Ricky, saya akan menghajar laki-laki itu.)
2. If the weather were nice, we would go on a picnic.
(Jika cuacanya cerah, kita akan pergi piknik.)
3. If I were Dennis, I would not come to Lucy’s house.
(Jika saya adalah Dennis, saya tidak akan datang ke rumah Lucy.)
4. If you were a nice person, you would not do that thing.
(Jika kamu adalah orang yang baik, kamu tidak akan melakukan hal itu.)
5. If I were Kevin, I would not skip the class and get into trouble.
(Jika saya adalah Kevin, saya tidak akan membolos kelas dan mendapat masalah.)
Conditinal Sentence Type 3
Conditional sentence type 3 is used to suppose if something is contrary to what has already happened.
Formula:
If + past perfect, future perfect
Future perfect + if + past perfect
Example:
1. If you had eaten your dinner, you would not have felt hungry.
(Jika kamu sudah makan malam, kamu tidak akan merasa lapar.)
2. If I had arrived earlier, I would not have gotten scolded by teacher.
(Jika saya sampai lebih awal, saya tidak akan dimarahi ibu guru.)
3. If I had had your phone number, I would have invited you.
(Jika saya memiliki nomor teleponmu, saya akan mengundangmu.)
4. If I had known about that news, I would have told you.
(Jika saya mengetahui tentang kabar itu, saya akan memberitahukannya kepadamu.)
5. If I had had courage, I would have confessed my love to you.
( Jika saya memiliki keberanian, saya akan menyatakan cintaku padamu.)
